Heffner’s hot start earns weekly honor

Grace College softball player Kaitlyn Heffner was honored as the Crossroads League player of the week for the first time in her career. The Lancers’ leadoff hitter, Heffner, a Greenwood graduate, went 4 of 7 at the plate with two doubles in the team’s first two games of the season.

GREENWOOD

Indiana freshman wrestler Nick Willham won his match at 197 pounds as the Hoosiers scored a 24-11 win against SIU-Edwardsville.

Taylor senior Hunter Smith ran a 5,000-meter time of 15:39.48 to place seventh at the Crossroads League indoor track and field championships at Indiana Wesleyan.

Wabash College sophomore Ethan Pine ran a career-best time of 4:21.04 to place eighth in the mile run at the Hoosier Hills Invitational at Indiana University.

IUPUI guard Holly Hoopingarner finished with three points and a team-high five assists in a 65-62 loss at Northern Kentucky.

St. Petersburg College guard Bailee Taft had five points, two rebounds and two assists in the team’s 95-56 loss at Eastern Florida State College. She had five points and two assists in a 77-50 loss to College of Central Florida.

St. Francis men’s basketball player Jeffrey Reynolds had 11 points, six boards and three blocks in a 73-63 overtime victory over Marian.

CENTER GROVE

Northwestern catcher Jordyn Rudd produced three hits, including a double, in the Wildcats’ 5-4 win over Kansas at the Clearwater/St. Pete softball tournament. The sophomore went 5 of 13 at the plate and drove in four runs in the team’s four games.

University of Indianapolis left fielder Hanna Burris delivered two hits, including a triple, and scored three runs in the Greyhounds’ 11-5 win over Tiffin.

UIndy wrestler Gleason Mappes recorded a tech fall at 174 pounds to help the Greyhounds down with a 48-6 decision over Ouachita Baptist.

Lipscomb junior Grant Mason finished ninth in the 400-meter dash at the Samford Bulldog Invitational in 49.47 seconds.

Purdue guard Cassidy Hardin finished with 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and a block in her team’s 70-58 victory at Illinois.

Bentley freshman Ella Thompson tallied 13 points with six rebounds and two assists in the team’s 76-67 triumph at Southern New Hampshire. She then scored a career-high 23 and grabbed seven rebounds in her team’s 90-83 overtime win over Assumption.

Emma Utterback had nine points, four rebounds and two assists in Vermont’s 76-53 loss at Binghamton. She had 15 points, two assists and two steals in a 72-68 loss to Stonybrook.

Belmont defeated Jacksonville State, 101-84, with Bruins senior guard Michael Benkert scoring seven points and grabbing three rebounds.

Delta State guard Anderson McCoy had 10 points, three boards and two assists in a 72-67 loss to Valdosta State.

Indiana freshman Trayce Jackson-Davis provided the Hoosiers five points and two boards in an 89-65 loss at Michigan. Jackson-Davis then dominated in IU’s 68-56 victory at Minnesota with 27 points, 16 rebounds and two blocks.

Spencer Piercefield had four points as Indiana Wesleyan sealed the Crossroads League regular-season title with a 110-96 defeat of Grace College.

FRANKLIN

Concordia (Wisconsin) men’s tennis player Logan Snyder won his singles match 6-4, 6-4 and was part of an 8-7 (10-7) victory in doubles as the Falcons shut out Lawrence, 9-0.

Gauge Creech helped Franklin College men’s swimming and diving attain a second consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference title by setting a school and meet standard with a final score of 516.55.

Butler’s Chandler McGaha posted a career-best time of 1:52.88 in the 800-meter run to place him eighth of 35 runners at the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Marian men’s track and field team won the Crossroads League Indoor championships as the Knights’ Sam Barnett had a time of 8.78 in the 60-meter hurdles.

Freshman forward Bayleigh Torrance had three points and three rebounds for Franklin College in its 57-52 win over Anderson.

Mount St. Joseph freshman Reece Thomson scored nine points in an 83-73 loss at Franklin College.

INDIAN CREEK

Purdue left fielder Kasey Wilhoit produced two hits and scored two runs in a 9-3 win against Central Michigan in Clermont, Florida.

Hunter Fields of Franklin College finished ninth in the weight throw at the DePauw Indoor track and field invitational.

Bethel guard Jared DeHart had three points, three assists and two steals for the Pilots in their 83-79 loss to Huntington. DeHart added four points and an assist in the Pilots’ 82-78 loss to Mount Vernon Nazarene.

WHITELAND

Franklin College freshman diver Collin Barton recorded a final score of 483.70 to help the Grizzlies capture the HCAC men’s team title for a second straight season.

Freshman guard Megan Harlow helped lead IU East to a 101-82 victory over Ohio Christian, just missing a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. Harlow also had three assists.

Sophomore guard Sidney Crowe had nine points, six rebounds and three assists for St. Francis in a 62-56 win at Grace College. Crowe had six points and three boards in the Cougars’ 58-36 loss to Marian.
