Veterans Day Events

You can grab a meal with a veteran, buy a poppy to help veterans or thank veterans at a school program.

Veterans Day is Nov. 11 and area organizations and schools are planning events to honor them.

Greenwood VFW Post No. 5864 poppy drive, 9 a.m. today, Tractor Supply, 1460 U.S. 31, Walmart, 882 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, and Sam’s Club, 1101 Windhorst Way. Proceeds go to help struggling veterans.

Greenwood American Legion Post No. 252 will have a lunch open to all veterans and their families at 2 p.m. Sunday, 334 U.S. 31 S.

Franklin American Legion Post No. 205 will host a dinner at 7 p.m. Monday, 1200 Park Ave.

Compass Park Event Center, 10 a.m. Monday, 690 State St., Franklin; doughnuts and coffee served at 9:30.

Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community, 7-9:30 a.m. Monday, 1080 W. Jefferson St., Franklin; all veterans will be honored with drive-through breakfast at the community’s main entrance, while supplies last.

Grace United Methodist Church and Boy Scout Troop No. 228, 6:30 p.m. Monday at the church, 1300 E. Adams Drive, Franklin. A reception will follow the program.

Local schools have planned programs ahead of the day. All programs are open to the public. They include:

Indian Creek High School/Middle School, 803 W. Indian Creek Drive, Trafalgar, 9:30 a.m. Monday. Anthony Miele will speak.

Greenwood Community Middle School, 1584 Averitt Road. 8 a.m. Monday.

East Side Elementary School, 810 E. Main Cross St., Edinburgh, 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Creekside Elementary School, 700 E. State Road 44., Franklin. 8:30 a.m. breakfast for active duty military; 9 a.m. convocation Monday.

Union Elementary School, 3990 W. Division Road, Bargersville. 1:15 p.m. Monday.

Webb Elementary School, 1400 Webb Court, Franklin. 9-9:35 a.m. Monday, reception for veterans. Program open to the community starts at 9:45.

Franklin Community Middle School, 625 Grizzly Cub Drive, Franklin. 8:30 a.m. Monday.
