Kinney shines for Murray State volleyball

Murray State outside hitter Rachel Kinney helped the Racers volleyball team win two of three matches at the Troy (Alabama) Invitational. Kinney, a sophomore from Franklin Community High School, had 14 kills against Chattanooga, 11 against Jacksonville and five in a loss to Troy.

FRANKLIN

Georgia State senior outside hitter Morgan Hash had 10 kills in a match against East Tennessee State at the UAB volleyball tournament and seven against the host Blazers.

The Franklin College volleyball team won two of three matches at a tournament hosted by Hanover. Junior Abby Sewell totaled 28 kills and six digs. She then added eight kills, four digs and three service aces in a win at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.

Andrew Bixler, a freshman for the University of Indianapolis men’s cross country team, placed 11th individually at the Stegemoller Classic at the University of Evansville with a time of 19 minutes, 45.3 seconds.

Marian junior defender Delanie Hill scored a goal in the team’s 4-0 win against Asbury.

Ball State freshman linebacker Clayton Coll had two tackles in the Cardinals’ 41-31 home loss to Florida Atlantic.

Rose-Hulman defensive back Tyce Miller participated in the Fightin’ Engineers’ first football win of the season, a 30-0 shutout at Rhodes, finishing with two tackles.

CENTER GROVE

Braxton Gentry, a sophomore midfielder for the Campbellsville (Kentucky) University women’s soccer team, scored two goals in the Tigers’ 12-0 rout of Bluefield College.

University of Indianapolis outsider hitter Emma Jones completed the four matches at the team’s own invitational with a total of 28 kills in four matches.

The Denver volleyball team won one of three matches at the Ameritas Players Challenge hosted by second-ranked Nebraska. Junior libero Macy Carrabine had seven assists and 13 digs in a win against Loyola Marymount, nine digs in a loss to the host Cornhuskers and 14 digs in a loss to High Point.

Middle Tennessee won two of three volleyball matches at a tournament in Evansville. Senior setter Taylor Hammill led the Mocs with weekend totals of 135 assists and 34 digs. Hammill also had 32 assists and six digs in a victory at Alabama A&M.

Indiana golfer Ethan Shepherd tied for 59th place individually as the Hoosiers competed in the Windon Memorial in Lake Forest, Illinois. Shepherd shot a 13-over score of 75-73-78—226.

Grace College senior Sydney Abbott was named to the all-tournament team at the Maverick Invitational in Grand Junction, Colorado, after shooting 78-78—156 to place third overall. Freshman teammate Lucy Young was seventh with a 79-79—158.

Duke freshman golfer Erica Shepherd shot 72-76-78—226 to place 44th at the Annika Intercollegiate tournament at the Royal Golf Club St. Elmo, Minnesota. Shepherd tied for the team lead with four birdies during the final round.

Senior Joey Siderewicz made six receptions for 39 yards and a touchdown in Franklin College’s home opener, a 48-26 loss to Albion.

Running back Alonzo Johnson and receiver Riley Roberts saw action for Rose-Hulman’s football team in its 30-0 victory at Rhodes.

University of Indianapolis safety Connor Steeb made four tackles and broke up a pass as the Greyhounds moved to 2-0 with a 48-21 victory over Hillsdale. Starting at center for UIndy was junior captain Clay Hadley.

Marian linebacker Bailey Bennett had three tackles in the Knights’ season-opening 49-14 triumph over St. Ambrose.

Louisville defensive back Russ Yeast had two tackles in the team’s 38-21 win over Western Kentucky.

Indiana kicker Nate Snyder had three kickoffs in a 51-10 home loss to Ohio State, averaging 65 yards with two touchbacks. Senior defensive tackle Gavin Everett also played for IU.

Indiana Wesleyan freshman receiver Jake Keith made a catch for two yards in the Wildcats’ 23-22 win over Missouri Baptist.

Taylor sophomore defensive back Tyler Watson chipped in three tackles for the Spartans in a 17-14 win at Butler.

Indiana State freshman defensive lineman Lucas Hunter had a tackle in the Sycamores’ 19-7 victory at Eastern Kentucky.

Stanford defensive lineman Jovan Swann had a tackle in the team’s 45-27 loss at Central Florida.

Valparaiso women’s tennis won four of six matches at the Cougar Invitational at Chicago State, including sophomore Isabella Schoolcraft’s 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles.

RONCALLI

Franklin College backup quarterback Robbie Strader, a Greenwood resident, carried the football once for two yards in a 48-26 home loss to Albion.

Senior defensive lineman Joe Swan, who lives in Greenwood, produced three tackles for Marian in a 49-14 victory over visiting St. Ambrose.

DePauw receiver Will Harris led the Tigers with eight receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown in a 45-19 loss at Central (Iowa).

WHITELAND

Midfielder Jordan Thomas scored a goal for the Franklin College men’s soccer team in its 2-0 victory at Finlandia. The senior midfielder also had a goal in the Grizzlies’ 2-1 win at Illinois Tech.

Anderson freshman defensive back Trevor Larence finished with four tackles in the Ravens’ 27-23 defeat of Cincinnati Christian.

INDIAN CREEK

Rose-Hulman linebacker Grant Goforth saw action in the team’s 30-0 win at Rhodes.
