Crowder makes cut at Indiana Open

And then there was one.

Former Center Grove and IUPUI standout Austin Crowder followed up his first-round 73 with a 2-over 74 at the Indiana Open Championship on Tuesday, becoming the lone Johnson County golfer to make the cut at Otter Creek Golf Club in Columbus.

Crowder finished the day in a tie for 42nd at 147, 3 over par. He will tee off on the 10th hole at 8:39 a.m. today.

Though 13 strokes back of leader Michael Davan of Zionsville, who fired a 63 Tuesday to move to -10 overall, Crowder remains optimistic going into the final round.

"I hit a lot of good shots," Crowder said. "I was 1 under through 13 holes, but probably should have been 2 or 3 under; I had a lot of opportunities. I’ve struggled on the par 5s, so hopefully I’ll clean that up and get something under par tomorrow."

Missing the cut were ex-Trojan and current University of Illinois golfer Noah Gillard, who shot 77 Tuesday to finish at 9 over par (153); Franklin College golfer Jackson Williams (76-78—154); Damon Dickey of Franklin (80-76—156); and Curtis Coverstone of Greenwood (92-83—175).

Gillard was frustrated with himself after a pair of disappointing days back to back.

"I just keep starting off bad," he said. "I think I’m just putting too much pressure on myself to make birdies and not letting the game come to me."
