Man steals car, leads police on high-speed chase

A man was arrested after he caused thousands of dollars worth of damage to a stolen car and multiple Center Grove area properties, and punched a police officer in the face.

Brandon Scott Teasley, 34, of Indianapolis, was arrested on charges of fleeing law enforcement, resisting law enforcement, battery on a law enforcement officer, auto theft and driving while suspended.

Police suspect he was under the influence of some type of narcotic during the ordeal early Monday.

About 5 a.m. Monday, Johnson County dispatch received reports of a hit and run at the LA Fitness in Greenwood, 540 N. State Road 135.

Sheriff’s deputies saw the car going south on State Road 135 and attempted to pull it over. The driver, later identified as Teasley, fled police, reaching speeds of 114 miles per hour on State Road 135. To avoid stop sticks near State Road 144, Teasley made a sharp left turn into a cornfield.

Deputies stopped their pursuit, but a department drone was able to track him through three properties. He eventually crashed into a fence and ran from the vehicle. He tried to hide by laying down in a cornfield, the report said.

Officers found a large knife in the driver’s seat of the car, the report said.

A Greenwood Police Department K-9 was able to track Teasley’s scent. Teasley punched a Greenwood police officer, whose K-9 partner bit Teasley repeatedly until he stopped resisting and could be handcuffed, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The vehicle had been stolen in Marion County, and Teasley offered several reasons for why he ran, including accusations against a minority group and a claim that a friend had been kidnapped. He said he also slashed a vehicle’s tires at a Greenwood gas station because it was being driven by the people who were now trying to kidnap him too, the report said.

“(Teasley) was not making any sense, appeared to be extremely paranoid and was under the influence of some type of narcotic,” the report said.

He caused significant damage to farm properties, and another property’s fence.

Teasley was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital where he was treated for dog bites, and then to the Johnson County jail where he is being held without bond.
