Boha named Scholar All-American

The last of Luke Boha’s many high school soccer accolades is one the former Center Grove midfielder doesn’t take for granted.

Boha, an All-County who scored three goals and had nine assists for the Trojans last season, has been named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America team. A total of 56 players from 26 different states made the team, with Boha the lone Indiana representative.

"It’s at the top of the list because I’ve always been taught and told to put my academics above athletics," Boha said. "That’s just the way it’s always been."

In order to be nominated, players must have an cumulative grade-point average of 3.75 on a 4.0 scale through the first semester of their senior year. Also taken into consideration was a player’s willingness to do community service at the local, regional or national level.

Boha excelled in both areas.

At Center Grove, he carried a 4.69 GPA, ranking him eighth academically in a class of just under 600 students. Boha accumulated over 100 hours of community service through organizations such as Wheeler Mission and the Johnson County Animal Shelter.

"I’m going to be honest, I was kind of expecting it because of what the minimum requirements were, and that mine were just above that," Boha said. "But I was surprised I was the only one from Indiana."

Boha was named first team All-State by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association after helping lead Center Grove to a 15-3 record and a tie for the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference title with Lawrence Central.

He’ll play for the Indiana University men’s soccer program and major in biology. Boha moves into his dorm on Aug. 4, with the Hoosiers’ first practice taking place six days later. IU plays three exhibitions between Aug. 19-24, the first two at Grand Park in Westfield.

Coach Todd Yeagley’s program finished 20-3-1 in 2018, advancing to the semifinal of the College Cup before losing to Big Ten rival Maryland, 2-0.

"I’m actually really excited to get to know some of my new best friends and work toward another national championship," Boha said.
