Traffic stop yields 5 pounds of marijuana

A routine traffic stop Monday night yielded nearly five pounds of marijuana, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Tatianna Martin, 26, of Bloomington, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana.

Just before midnight, sheriff’s deputies pulled over a SUV for speeding on State Road 37, between County Road 700 North and County Road 800 North in the Center Grove area.

Deputies could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle. They asked how much marijuana was inside the vehicle, and the driver said none, according to the report.

Martin, the passenger, and her two children were also in the car. The driver told police he was driving them to Bloomington from Chicago, the report said.

Deputies asked the driver to get out of the car so they could speak with him privately. They told him they could smell marijuana and asked him again how much marijuana was inside the car. He again told them none.

They then asked Martin and the children to get out of the car so they could search it. They found 4.66 pounds of marijuana inside a duffel bag in the trunk of the car, which also included children’s clothing, women’s shoes, diapers and other items making it obvious it belonged to Martin, deputies said.

Deputies arrested Martin. She asked that her children be released to the driver, who agreed to take them to Bloomington. He was released with a speeding ticket, the report said.

Martin was taken to the Johnson County jail, where she was released on $250 bond.
