Firework causes house fire in Trafalgar

The annual Lamb Lake fireworks show in Trafalgar ended with a house fire and a woman being evacuated from her home.

About 10:20 p.m. Friday, a firework that didn’t explode came down through an attic on the 4600 block of Pitcher Drive, causing about $10,000 of damage to the house’s garage ceiling, which is the attic’s floor, Trafalgar Fire Chief Mark Dunn said.

“Lamb Lake is always a good show,” Dunn said. “It was one of those freak accidents. (The firework) didn’t go off and approximately 45 seconds later it came down and we heard it behind us. It made a pretty loud bang when it came down. It was so big and it had so much force that it punctured a hole in the roof of the house once it penetrated.”

The Bargersville Fire Department assisted Trafalgar firefighters at the scene, and the two departments were able to get the fire under control in about 10 to 15 minutes. The resident was rushed out unharmed and stayed at another residence that night, Dunn said.
