Man struck, killed by train

An Edinburgh man was struck and killed by a train this weekend.

Joshua Cain Nichols, 25, of Edinburgh, was struck and killed by a train just before 3 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Main Cross Street and North Holland Street, near El Jefe Mexican Restaurant in downtown Edinburgh.

A Louisville and Indiana Railroad dispatcher said Nichols was standing on the tracks exposing his backside to the train and a friend was recording it when Nichols was struck, according to an Edinburgh police report.

Nichols died about 10 minutes later, the report said.

Medics had a hard time reaching Nichols because the tracks were shut down, the report said.

Nichols died from blunt force trauma, county coroner Craig Lutz said.
