Humane society gets more security after puppy theft

The thief jumped the fence at the Johnson County Humane Society, crawled through a dog door and stole two puppies that were too young to be away from their mother.

The stolen pitbull puppies who were reported missing on May 25 have since been found and returned to the humane society.

Now, the Johnson County Humane Society has received donations of security equipment to try to prevent a similar theft.

The day after the theft, a representative from Catalyst Security Solutions in Franklin walked through the property on the humane society and decided to donate four cameras and installation labor, Anne Sutton, executive director for the Johnson County Humane Society said.

The humane society bought four additional cameras and the company donated the labor. In all, the humane society received about $2,500 in equipment and labor donations, Sutton said.

Employees at the humane society routinely locked the windows and doors before the theft. Now, they can see most areas of the humane society remotely and on a desktop, which is invaluable for the non-profit organization, she said.

"It is just amazing," Sutton said.
