Letter: Greenwood leaders should focus on hometown pride

To the editor:

Greenwood political candidates, win or lose, I thank you for running. I seldom miss my chance to vote. Lots of yard signs, but little or no information to vote for you. Thus, without information to your future plans, I did not vote for you. The results, should confuse some of you. Mayor Mark Meyers is a good example, not receiving a larger percentage of the votes.

Yes, Greenwood does need jobs. How many speculative warehouses do we need? Employment in these jobs is already exceeding employees. Yes, housing is a problem. $225,000 average starting point for new homes? Yes, they are nice, but how about the large amount of young people just starting out who would like to remain in Greenwood? I couldn’t imagine the income required to make the house payment.

We seem to be increasingly going into debt. Was the landscaping on Emerson Avenue really a priority within our infrastructure or just to pretty up a very serviceable road? I personally try my best to avoid our "Moonshine" jug handle round about. Wait for spring for more improvements? Painted lines will do me no good when traffic is heavy and covered with cars. Clear, large overhead signs would benefit me. I hope it generally has improved traffic flow.

As a homeowner, I would like to say Help! Financing the downtown improvement of private property? I have some home repairs that I would like to do that would improve and help maintain my property value. Care to grant/finance me?

Overall, we are not Carmel. I like to think of Greenwood as my hometown that maintaining itself, upgrades as needed and continues to keep its hometown pride.

Thank you,

Joe VanHuss
