Franklin man arrested after luxury car, cremains stolen

A Franklin man was arrested after police said he crawled into the window of a Greenwood home and stole thousands of dollars worth of cash and electronics, a safe that had cremated remains and a luxury vehicle.

Justin Don Allen, 18, 1199 Hospital Road, was arrested on charges of residential entry, burglary, auto theft and fraud.

A man in the 1700 block of Farm Meadow Drive in Greenwood called police at 5:32 p.m. Tuesday to report that he could hear someone on the first floor of his home and that he was watching a man approach his Lexus vehicle on a security camera, according to a report from the Greenwood Police Department.

Police entered the home and saw a space on a television stand where a television was pulled from the wall, a sound bar on the floor and space where a television belonged. The officer also noticed that the luxury vehicle was no longer parked in the driveway, according to the report.

The resident told police that a video game system with accessories and games and a laptop were missing. A purse with a wallet including debit cards, identification materials, credit cards and sunglasses were taken from a vehicle in the garage. Keys to a motorcycle and the Lexus were missing from a hook in the garage, the report said.

A safe that had more than $1,000 in cash, credit cards, identification paperwork and the ashes of a deceased relative was missing from an upstairs bedroom. A laptop was also missing from the second floor, according to the report.

The man told police a window was left open and the screen in the window was cut. Police believe that is how Allen entered the home, the report said.

Police left the scene and the victim called dispatch to report that his credit card was being used at a Meijer at 150 S. Marlin Drive, Greenwood. Police went to the store and saw the Lexus with a television sticking out of the trunk.

A juvenile female was in the vehicle and she told police Allen was hiding under a vehicle parked about 30 feet away. He was arrested and taken to the Johnson County Jail, where he was held on $6,000 bond.

The vehicle that contained multiple missing items, including the cremated ashes, was turned back over to the resident, the report said.
