Financial advising firm receives recognition

A financial firm with multiple local locations has ranked high for customer satisfaction.

Financial services firm Edward Jones ranks highest in investor satisfaction with full service brokerage firms, according to the J.D. Power 2019 U.S. Full Service Investor Satisfaction Study.

The study measures overall investor satisfaction with 18 full service investment firms based on eight factors, including financial advisor, account information, investment performance, firm interaction, product offerings, commissions and fees, information resources, and problem resolution. The firm scored 853 in overall satisfaction, 18 points over the industry average.

The firm has advisers working in Franklin, Whiteland, Greenwood and the southside.

The 2019 Full Service Investor Satisfaction Study is based on responses from more than 4,629 investors who primarily invest with one of the 18 firms included in the study. The majority of the study was fielded in December 2018.

Greenwood based wealth management firm opens new office

Treybourne Wealth Planners of Greenwood has announced the addition of an office in downtown Chicago, Illinois.

Two long-time advisors, Tracy Bousky and Chase Huang, have joined Treybourne Wealth and are serving clients in the new Chicago office.

Congressman receives award

Rep. Trey Hollingsworth has received the Innovator in Biotechnology Award from the Biotechnology Innovation Organization in recognition of his efforts to embrace the value of biotechnology and promote policies to unleash the potential of life-saving innovations.

BIO gives this award to members of Congress who have been collaborative partners, advocates and champions for the biotechnology and life sciences industries.

Franklin College math department receives award

Franklin College’s math department has receive a national honor from the American Mathematical Society for their work on a festival celebrating the subject.

The college’s department is the recipient of the 2019 Award for an Exemplary Program or Achievement in a Mathematics Department.

The American Mathematical Society is a national association of professional mathematicians committed to advancing research and scholarship. It provides information and guidance on best practices to math and computing programs across the country.

The society recognized the department’s selection as a featured part of MathFest in 2016 and 2017, hosted by the Mathematical Association of America. There, Franklin College faculty showcased their model for student success in a minicourse called "Creating a Purposeful Student Learning Experience." The MAA recently announced that the department would be on the program again this year.

The society cited the six principles of the department’s curriculum — research-based, all-inclusive goals and objectives, scaffolded developmental strands, engaging department culture, innovative curriculum, deliberate integration of co-curricular experiences, and comprehensive assessment — as "well-defined programmatic goals."

College fraternity of women celebrating anniversary with endowed fund

The Indiana Alpha chapter of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women is celebrating its 130th year at Franklin College with the establishment of an endowed award fund, a campaign originally launched during its 125th anniversary year.

The IN Pi Beta Phi 125th Anniversary Award Fund will provide monetary gifts for qualified students in the organization. Eligible applicants must be initiated members of Pi Beta Phi, who are in good standing with the college and who uphold the fraternity’s core values: integrity, commitment, personal and intellectual growth, philanthropic service and sincere friendship. More than 50 alumnae and friends have contributed to the fund. The awards generated can be used for any college-related expense.

All initiated members were eligible to complete the application for the inaugural round of awards, which were bestowed during the 2018-19 academic year in celebration of the organization’s 130th anniversary. In the future, award recipients will be recognized in the fall at the annual Homecoming and Alumni Weekend Pi Beta Phi Breakfast.

Local residents appointed to boards

Gov. Eric J. Holcomb has announced several new appointments and reappointments to various state boards and commissions, which include local residents.

County residents named to the boards include:

  • Education Commission of the States: Lee Ann Kwiatkowski of Greenwood, senior education advisor to Holcomb
  • Oversight Committee on Public Records: Scott T. Uecker, Franklin, faculty member with the University of Indianapolis and general manager of WICR-FM
