Edinburgh baseball blanked by Hauser

Hauser senior starting pitching Aaron Mee pitched a near-perfect game in Wednesday’s Mid-Hoosier Conference baseball game at Edinburgh.

Mee only surrendered one hit and one walk while striking out 11 on the mound, and the Jets offense took charge from there, rolling to an 11-0 victory in five innings.

"(Mee) threw a great game and did a great job spotting his pitches," Edinburgh coach Dennis Smith said. "Since it was their first game, I thought we could have jumped on them early and get things going the right way."

Hauser got the first run of the game in the first inning when Jackson Paradise walked and stole second. He eventually scored on a grounder from Trey Johnson to lead 1-0.

The score remained that way until the top of the third inning, when Will Trotter led off with a walk for the Jets. After a couple of wild pitches advanced Trotter to third, he scored off of a grounder from Mee to lead 2-0.

Edinburgh starting pitcher Zack Giles had a no-hitter going until it was broken up in the top off the fourth with a single from Sean Miller. Giles walked the next two batters to load the bases, and Kamerson Lawson then walked to score pinch runner Landon Asher. A wild pitch scored another run and then a grounder from Trotter made it 5-0 after four innings.

"Going into the fourth inning, we were looking really good. As young as we are, it’s going to take a few innings to get us going," Smith said. "What we struggled with the first two games, we made up for it early on. Now we have to clean up the back half, we can put a whole game together."

The Jets put it away in the fifth inning with six runs on four hits.

Ethan Armel had the lone hit for Edinburgh.

"Overall, I thought we were pretty solid," Smith said. "Things will get better as the season goes on. Giles only gave up four runs on two hits at the time in four innings. We also had no errors going into the fifth. With as much youth that our team has, we were pretty solid."
