Indianapolis men suspected of robbing Greenwood GameStop

Two Indianapolis men have been charged with level 3 felonies following a string of robberies at central Indiana GameStops, including one in Greenwood.

Police arrested two Indianapolis men after they robbed a GameStop in Greenwood on March 15, and then led police on a car chase.

James Price, 21, 3924 Bertram Road, Indianapolis, is charged with armed robbery in Johnson County, and is being held at the Johnson County jail on $32,000 bond.

Thomas Stokes, 19, 3525 Clark Road, Indianapolis, faces four felony charges in Hendricks County: armed robbery; two criminal confinement with a deadly weapon charges; and theft where value is between $750 and $50,000.

Three men, including Stokes, robbed a GameStop on March 11 in Avon, where Stokes faces charges, according to Hendricks County court documents.

Stokes was released from the Johnson County jail on $32,000 bond, Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess said Monday.

About 9 p.m. March 15, as two employees were closing the store at 916 North U.S. 31, Price and Stokes drove up in a black car and entered the store. At least one of the men had a gun, employees told police.

The employees told police the men ordered them into a storage room in the back of the store and forced them to sit on the ground, according to a Greenwood police report.

One of the suspects grabbed several PS4 Pros and Xbox Ones and carried the devices out of the storage room, the report said. It was later determined the men stole 14 gaming systems valued at $5,786, according to the police report.

Moments later, the suspects ordered the two employees back to the front of the store where they were told to open the cash register. The suspects are believed to have stolen $300 to $500 from the register, the report said.

That’s when the employees heard one of the men say they had to get out of there, employees told police.

Indianapolis and Avon police detectives were actively monitoring a group of serial robbers and watched the robbery play out, according to the report.

Police attempted to stop the car, but the suspects led police on a short car chase, eventually crashing on a dead end road in Indianapolis.

Once the two suspects were in custody, Price told police he and Stokes “came down to rob the GameStop store because it was outside of Indy,” the report said. Price said they waited until the store was closing and the customers were leaving so there “wouldn’t be as much heat on them.”

Price admitted everything to police, including robbing the store at gunpoint, according to the report.

Stokes is believed to have robbed two other GameStops: one on East U.S. 36 in Avon on March 11, and another on West 86th Street in Indianapolis on March 4, court documents said. All three robberies were conducted the same way, according to court documents.

Indianapolis police are investigating.
