Real estate team wins awards

Local real estate agents won awards for sales achievements.

RE/MAX Results, with offices in Northeast and Central Indiana, has recognized more than 100 associates for their sales achievements in 2018.

RE/MAX Results received recognition from RE/MAX of Indiana as the Top Multi-Office Company in the state for both closed volume and number of transactions for 2018.

Water company names new leader

American Water has named a new president of Indiana American Water and Michigan American Water.

Matthew Prine has taken the top position. He is replacing Deborah Dewey, who has been named president of Missouri American Water.

Prine joined Indiana American Water in 2014 as director of Government Affairs.

Prior to joining American Water, Prine served as executive director of the Indiana Utility Shareholder Association. He also serves as a volunteer firefighter and EMT for Amity Fire and Rescue.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Hanover College and is a graduate of the  the Indiana Leadership Forum and has been an active member of the Indiana Society of Association Executives and Government Affairs Society of Indiana.

Franklin College to host mathematician on campus

Franklin College’s Mathematics and Computing Department will welcome a leading mathematical mind to campus this spring for three days of learning and innovation, as well as a public lecture.

T. Christine "Chris" Stevens, Ph.D., is the associate executive director for meetings and professional services for the American Mathematical Society, a national association of professional mathematicians committed to advancing research and scholarship. She is scheduled to visit campus April 8 through April 10.

She will deliver a public lecture at 7 p.m. April 9. in the Branigin Room in the Napolitan Student Center. Her lecture is titled "Mathematical Inequalities, Social Inequities, and STEM Education." The focus will be on the cost to society from an underrepresentation of women and various minority groups in STEM fields. This event is free and open to the public.

Stevens is the co-founder and former co-director of Project NExT (New Experiences in Teaching), a professional development program for those seeking to build a career in higher mathematics education. The scholar received her Ph.D. in mathematics from Harvard University and completed a bachelor of arts, also in mathematics, at Smith College.
