Indianapolis woman arrested on charge of counterfeiting

Franklin police arrested an Indianapolis woman on charges of counterfeiting and theft/receiving stolen property after an officer collected nine fake $100 bills on Saturday.

Honesty Shyray Beecher, 18, of 7238 Twin Oaks Drive Apt. E, Indianapolis, was arrested after an employee at the Kroger in Franklin reported that someone had used two counterfeit $100, according to a police report.

Beecher talked to the officer and said first that she spent two of the bills at Kroger and one at Big Lots, but didn’t know they were counterfeit. After the officer questioned her further, shesaid she knew the bills were fake and she bought them for $10 each from a man at a gas station behind her house. She said she also spent a bill at PetSmart, but denied having any bills on her person or in the car, according to the report.

After the officer arrested Beecher, he found cat litter and cat food from PetSmart, Doritos and Starbucks and Ruby Tuesday’s gift cards from Kroger, and a money jar, toys and diapers from Big Lots, all of which were purchased using counterfeit $100 bills, according to the report.

While four counterfeit bills were collected from the stores, the officer collected three such bills from Beecher’s car and two from the back seat of the patrol car. Aside from the goods that were purchased with the four $100 bills, Beecher also received $279.21 in change. The officer also found gift cards and receipts from Kroger locations in Greenfield and Richmond in the car, a receipt from Tractor Supply as well as a gift card from Aldi, all of which followed the pattern of her spending $100 bills, according to the report.

Beecher was taken to the Johnson County Jail and released on $2,200 bond.
