3 threats in 1 week at Indian Creek; at least 1 student arrested

An Indian Creek High School sophomore was arrested on Monday after he posted a gun threat toward the school on his Instagram, school officials said.

On Friday, a separate threat was discovered in a school bathroom, threatening an incident later this week. More police are at the school and will continue through the week, school officials said.

The threat discovered on Friday was written on a girl’s bathroom stall at the high school. It read: "(Expletive) everyone. 3-1-19. Don’t come to school," Superintendent Tim Edsell said.

School officials do not know who wrote the message, he said.

Then on Monday, another threat was found on a student’s Instagram account, according to a letter from school officials to parents:

“Can I get a R.I.P. because the schools probably gonna get shot up lol” and “If your gonna shoot up the school don’t tell anyone and when it happens you won’t have a s*** ton of cops."

High school administrators learned about the incident about 2:30 p.m. Monday and notified police immediately, according to a letter sent to parents.

Trafalgar police investigated and arrested the student at his home about 3:20 p.m. He was taken to the Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center, school officials said.

It is the third threat within one week at the high school, and the second involving the threat of gun violence.

Earlier last week, a student was removed from school after he told another student he was going to bring a gun to school and kill him. Additional Trafalgar police officers were monitoring the school the following day.

"The student will be disciplined to the full extent of school rules and applicable state law. The student will not be in attendance while the discipline process is carried out," the letter said.

Both students who made gun threats have been expelled from the school, Edsell said.

The letter went on to address the multiple threats that have been reported at the school.

"With the recent string of threats, we ask that you please continue to talk with your students at home about the seriousness, impact, and consequences of these types of incidents; as well as, the importance of reporting them immediately to an adult," the letter said.

The school district has hired an additional school resource officer – they previously had one. They’re monitoring all of the schools, but keeping a close eye on the high school, Edsell said. There will be additional police presence at the school on Friday, the date of the threat on the bathroom stall, he said.

"Trafalgar police is helping us, obviously, making sure we have a strong visual police presence on campus," he said.

As of now, parents will not have the option to keep their kids home from school on Friday.
