Boys basketball sectional brackets revealed

Center Grove has never won three boys basketball sectionals in a row. The Trojans are widely expected to achieve the feat for the first time next week, but they’ll have their work cut out for them.

Coach Zach Hahn and his team found out they’ll have a first-round date with county rival Greenwood when the sectional brackets were unveiled by the IHSAA on Sunday evening.

The sectional host Trojans (15-7) escaped a double-overtime battle with the Woodmen in the semifinal round of the Johnson County tournament last month.

“The sectional is tough every single year because you play teams two or three times,” Center Grove coach Zach Hahn said. “Everyone knows you both offensively and defensively. It gives teams multiple games to try different game plans.”

The winner of that clash between Center Grove and Greenwood next Tuesday will advance to a semifinal game against Franklin Central.

On the bottom half of the bracket, Whiteland drew the other first-round bye and will play in next Friday’s second semi against either Franklin or Martinsville. The Warriors defeated both the Grizzly Cubs and Artesians in Mid-State Conference play during the regular season.

In Class 3A sectional action at Danville, Indian Creek will take on Beech Grove in its opener next Tuesday. The winner of that game will advance into a semifinal matchup with Herron.

Edinburgh received an opening-round bye in the Class A West Washington Sectional and will face the Crothersville-Trinity Lutheran winner in a semifinal game next Friday.

Also in Class A, Greenwood Christian plays Tindley next Tuesday in the opening round of the Indianapolis Lutheran Sectional. The host Saints will await the winner.
