Indian Creek Schools getting new transportation building

A new transportation and maintenance building to house school buses is being built for Nineveh-Hensley-Jackson schools, and the old facility demolished to make room for more parking.

The school board has approved the planning, design and construction of a new transportation and maintenance facility that will cost up to $2.5 million. The building will be constructed on a 10-acre plot of land the district owns.

Terry Lancer of Lancer + Beebe presented possible locations of the facility, which will be used to store the district’s school buses. The building will be off of South County Road 300 West. Despite concerns about traffic on that road, the location was picked due to cost savings, as it would require a shorter distance for utilities to travel.

The district plans to borrow money to pay for the project. Once the facility is built, the district plans to turn the current 5,700 square foot bus garage, which is located in the center of the campus, into additional parking.

The district has mentioned building athletic fields on the rest of the plot as a possibility in the future.
