Edinburgh had a good rhythm going offensively in the first half, but the second half proved to be a much different story.

Hauser disrupted the Lancers in the second half and the Jets went on to give Edinburgh a 53-36 Mid-Hoosier Conference girls basketball loss.

Edinburgh assistant coach Jason Burton, who filled in for head coach Amy Schilling, credited the Hauser defense in the second half.

“We knew what we were walking into. Hauser is a really good team and a good conference opponent and always a tough environment to play in,” Burton said. “First half, we held our emotions and had some continuity on offense. I think the defensive pressure got to us a little. We made some uncharacteristic mistakes and got away from some things that were working for us in the first half.”

Edinburgh’s Destiney Ramey caught fire in the first half as she buried a 3-pointer to give the Lancers a 9-5 lead. In the second quarter, after Hauser pulled ahead 15-12, Ramey responded by scoring six more points during a 7-0 run to lead 19-15. The Jets came back to take the lead 21-20 by halftime.

Edinburgh (5-6, 0-1) came back early in the third quarter to take a 25-24 lead, but the Jets finished out the quarter by scoring eight straight points and leading 32-25 heading into the fourth.

Hauser kept the momentum going by starting out on a 13-6 run to extend the lead to 45-31. That left Edinburgh no chance at a comeback.

For the Lancers, Ramey scored a game-high 19 points, with 11 coming in the first half. The Jets put the team’s top defender, Mel Hasler, on Ramey at times during the second half and it disputed the Lancers’ offensive rhythm.

“When it comes to Destiney, she is probably going to be defended like that with every conference team; she’s a good scorer,” Burton said. “She’s a good player and it is a growing experience for her for the next five conference games we have that she is going to expect to see this defense.”

Sidney Beier finished with eight points for the Lancers.
