School officials, police investigating drug use at Indian Creek High School

Police are investigating whether drugs, possibly cocaine or methamphetamine, were used inside Indian Creek High School.

Trafalgar police are investigating a report of two students using drugs that looked like cocaine or methamphetamine in a restroom at the school on Friday morning. Both students are under the age of 18, police chief Charles Roberts said. The investigation was expected to be completed on Monday, he said.

Another student reported the incident to school officials, Nineveh-Hensley-Jackson Schools Superintendent Timothy Edsell said.

“We’re very appreciative of that,” Edsell said. “It was serious enough of a lookalike drug that we immediately notified police.”

Parents of all students were not notified of the investigation because it is still unclear if it was drugs and, if so, what kind of drug it was, he said.

“There was no confirmation that it was meth. At no point was student safety compromised or jeopardized,” Edsell said.

If it is determined in the police investigation that it was a narcotic drug, a mass communication will be sent out to parents, he said.

Both students are being disciplined, although Edsell would not say how.

“The issue is certainly being addressed and serious consequences are being mitigated,” he said.
