Police respond to 26 crashes, slide-offs on I-65

More than 20 vehicles were involved in accidents on Interstate 65 in Johnson County on Thursday morning, and one involved a state police car.

Indiana State Police responded to 26 accidents on the interstate between Greenwood and Edinburgh — 11 crashes and 15 slide-offs — due to ice on bridges and overpasses, Sgt. John Perrine said.

One police car was involved in a crash near the Worthsville Road exit, Perrine said. The trooper was investigating another crash when a vehicle slid out of control and struck the back of his car. No one was injured in either crash.

One crash resulted in a minor injury. Details of that accident are not available yet, Perrine said.

Most crashes and slide-offs occurred between 5:52 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. on Thursday.

Officials did not close the highway, but traffic was restricted near each of the crashes, which slowed traffic during the morning rush hour, he said.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and Whiteland Police Department assisted state police.
