McCoy’s career day helps ISU win again

Sophomore running back Titus McCoy rushed for a career-high 123 yards on 21 carries to help Indiana State win a three-overtime thriller against South Dakota, 51-48.

The former Center Grove standout is the third-leading rusher for the Sycamores (5-4) this season with 387 yards. He also enters today’s home game against Illinois State with three catches for 18 yards.

CENTER GROVE

Western Illinois fullback Max Norris carried the football 17 times for a game-high 91 yards as the Leathernecks erased a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit to win at Southern Illinois, 34-31.

Marian linebacker Bailey Bennett tied for team-high honors with 10 tackles in Marian’s 48-17 victory against 10th-ranked Concordia.

Freshman safety Tyler Watson finished with four tackles for Taylor in a 40-20 loss to ninth-ranked St. Francis. Sophomore safety Sam Bolin had two tackles for the Spartans, while senior offensive lineman Austin Smogor started at left guard for St. Francis.

Vanderbilt defensive end Cameron Tidd finished with two tackles in a 45-31 win at Arkansas.

University of Indianapolis safety Connor Steeb finished the Greyhounds’ 31-7 victory at Truman with six tackles and an interception.

Franklin College receiver Joey Siderewicz made one catch for the Grizzlies in a 28-24 victory at Bluffton.

Illinois State volleyball celebrated Senior Night with a 3-2 decision over No. 25 Northern Iowa to improve its record to 22-5. Senior Ali Line did her part with seven kills, three blocks and three digs.

Middle Tennessee volleyball lost in three sets to UTSA, but Mocs’ junior setter Taylor Hammill finished with 12 assists and six digs.

Macy Carrabine’s 11 digs helped the Denver volleyball squad defeat Oral Roberts in straight sets.

Senior Regan Wentland had a double-double for Indiana State in its 62-53 season-opening victory at Marshall, finishing with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Holy Cross College senior Jessica Norris finished with seven points and four boards in 61-45 loss to Spring Arbor (Michigan). The senior had 11 points and eight rebounds in a 78-68 loss to Huntington.

Noah Tallman took part in Franklin College’s 400 medley relay that finished second in a meet with Illinois Tech and Loras College.

INDIAN CREEK

Senior cornerback James Starks finished with eight tackles, including 1.5 for loss, to help the Trine football team remain undefeated with a 42-27 victory over Adrian.

Bethel freshman guard Jared DeHart had two rebounds and an assist in a win over Waldorf (Iowa), as well as six points in a five-point victory at St. Ambrose (Iowa). The 23rd-ranked Pilots also downed Roosevelt, 80-68, with DeHart contributed five points and two assists.

Cincinnati Christian sophomore guard Tim Abel scored 14 points to go along with four rebounds and two assists in a 105-97 win against Trinity International. He followed that with eight points and four boards in a 97-93 loss to Grace College.

FRANKLIN

Franklin College sophomore volleyball player Abby Sewell was named to the All-HCAC first team after leading the Grizzlies with 251 kills. Sewell, a middle blocker, was second on the team in blocks (55) and service aces (34).

Georgia State junior outside hitter Morgan Hash produced seven kills and three digs in a home loss to Georgia Southern.

UIndy freshman Emma Treibic finished 44th at the Great Lakes Valley Conference cross country meet in Louisville with a time of 24 minutes, 13.51 seconds.

Freshman Rachel Kinney had 11 digs and an assist in Murray State’s 3-2 volleyball win at Morehead State.

Senior tight end Damon Munn caught a 7-yard touchdown in the third quarter for Trine as it defeated Adrian, 42-27.

WHITELAND

Indiana Wesleyan’s first-place finish at the Crossroads League cross country championships included a 12th-place performance from Jared Williams (26:58.4). Former Warriors teammate Landry Long, now running at Taylor, came in 21st (27:37).

Junior midfielder Jordan Thomas finished the men’s soccer season as Franklin College’s leader in goals (7) and points (14). Thomas had two goals in the Grizzlies’ 4-1 win over Mount St. Joseph in the final match.

GREENWOOD

Taylor junior Hunter Smith placed seventh individually at the Crossroads League cross country championships in a time of 26 minutes, 52.3 seconds to lead the Spartans to a runner-up team finish.

IUPUI opened its women’s basketball season with a 101-40 win over Purdue Northwest as Jaguars’ junior guard Holly Hoopingarner had 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals in only 15 minutes of court time.

Wabash quarterback Tanner Skeel ran the ball six times for 45 yards and a touchdown in the Little Giants’ 54-17 victory over Allegheny College.

Sophomore Ryder Burchett started at right tackle for ninth-ranked St. Francis in its 40-20 victory at Taylor.

EDINBURGH

Defensive back Elliott Parmer made four tackles and broke up a pass for Franklin College in its 28-24 win at Bluffton.

RONCALLI

DePauw receiver Will Harris caught a 38-yard touchdown pass to help the Tigers defeat Kenyon, 38-6.
