Greenwood woman dead, police investigating as homicide

Police are investigating the death of a woman in her Greenwood home as a homicide.

Carla Hatton, 70, was found dead inside her home at Homecoming at University Park late Friday night, according to a Greenwood Police Department news release. Her son, John A. Hatton Jr., 49, was inside the home and injured.

Police were called by John Hatton’s brother, who said that John Hatton had called him and said that he had killed their mother, according to the news release. Police found John Hatton in the home with what appeared to be a self-inflicted wound to his neck, the news release said.

Police called John Hatton a suspect in his mother’s death and are investigating it as a homicide.

He was detained and taken to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis, police said.

Carla Hatton’s cause of death and other circumstances of the investigation have not been released.

The investigation started with the brother’s phone call at 11:52 p.m. Friday. Police went to the home at 397 Heritage Drive in the neighborhood off Main Street, east of Interstate 65.
