Local fast food restaurants collect change

Two local McDonald’s Restaurants participated in a charity day that helps families who have sick children. 

The McDonald’s in Franklin at 2080 E. King St. and Greenwood at 121 Marlin Dr. participated in the Day of Change initiative.

Customers were encouraged to donate loose change that would go to the Ronald McDonald House charities.

The Ronald McDonald House in Indianapolis offers families a place to stay while their child is undergoing treatment.

Local doctor appointed to serve as chairman

Richard Feldman, MD, has been appointed to serve as chairman of the American Academy of Family Physicians’ Commission on Education.

Feldman will serve a one-year term beginning in December. He will lead efforts to develop relevant policy and the dissemination of expertise and new information related to the education and professional development of family medicine residents nationally.

He is currently the director of Medical Education at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis, an associate professor at Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine and a clinical assistant professor of family Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Greenwood practice hires new doctor

Emily Perkins, MD, has joined Franciscan Physician Network Southeast Family Medicine.

The practice is at 965 Emerson Parkway, Suite J, Greenwood.

Perkins most recently completed training in the Franciscan Health Family Medicine Residency Program, where she served as chief resident and as a member of the wellness and curriculum committees. During her training, she also participated in medical mission projects in Ecuador and volunteered for outreach health care programs and clinics serving the homeless.

She received her undergraduate degree in physiology with honors at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. She earned her medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine-Springfield and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
