College notebook: Conners clocks personal best

Franklin College junior Blaine Conners placed 30th at the #JennaStrong Fall Classic in Wilmington, Ohio, with a personal-best time of 26 minutes, 8.8 seconds.

The former Franklin Community High School athlete now holds the eighth fastest 8-kilometer clocking in Grizzly men’s cross country history.

FRANKLIN

Bianca Tisdale competed for Huntington at the #JennaStrong Fall Classic, finishing 126th individually in a time of 21:09.1.

Junior middle blocker Abby Sewell finished with a team-high 12 kills and seven digs in Franklin College’s 3-0 sweep of Anderson in volleyball. She had three kills and six digs in a loss to Alma and five kills in a loss at Transylvania.

Freshman defensive lineman Manny Cheam had a tackle for Franklin College in its 42-34 road win over Mount St. Joseph.

Trine tight end Damon Munn had a catch in his squad’s 50-49 win at Olivet.

INDIAN CREEK

Trine cornerback James Starks had a career-high 10 tackles, including one for loss, in the Thunder’s 50-49 victory at Olivet.

CENTER GROVE

IUPUI senior golfer Austin Crowder erased a four-stroke deficit entering the final round to earn medalist honors at the Chatham Hills Collegiate tournament in Westfield. Crowder finished with a school-record 54-hole total of 68-69-68—205. Not far behind was Indiana sophomore Ethan Shepherd, who placed fourth with a 74-66-70—210.

Butler senior Zack Carrabine tied for 45th place at the Georgetown Invitational in Beallsville, Maryland, with a 54-hole score of 227.

Sam Jean, a freshman at Cincinnati, helped the Bearcats secure third place out of 15 teams at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate hosted by Louisiana Tech. Jean tied for 61st with a 36-hole score of 153.

Sophomore safety Connor Steeb led the University of Indianapolis football team with seven tackles in the Greyhounds’ 35-7 defeat of Quincy. His teammate, sophomore safety Blake Moran, added two tackles, while another soph, Clay Hadley, made his 18th consecutive start on the offensive line.

Franklin College receiver Joey Siderewicz made four receptions for 77 yards in the Grizzlies’ 42-34 victory at Mount St. Joseph.

Vanderbilt sophomore defensive lineman Cameron Tidd made three tackles in a 37-27 home loss to Florida.

Sophomore linebacker Bailey Bennett helped Marian’s football team score a 55-0 victory at Taylor with his 2.5 tackles for loss and three tackles overall. Former high school teammates Sam Bolin and Tyler Watson, safeties for Taylor, picked up four and three tackles, respectively.

Indiana State running back Titus McCoy carried the football six times for 24 yards in the Sycamores’ 29-26 loss to visiting Missouri State.

Max Norris had three carries for eight yards in Western Illinois’ 34-7 home loss to North Dakota State. He also made two catches for 10 yards.

SIU-Edwardsville freshman outside hitter Ellen LeMasters finished with four kills, two service aces and a block in her team’s 3-0 volleyball loss to Jacksonville State.

Illinois State volleyball improved its record to 16-5 with wins over Loyola and Bradley. Senior middle blocker Ali Line totaled 23 kills and 11 digs in the two matches.

Junior setter Taylor Hammill produced 35 assists and six digs for Middle Tennessee in its 3-0 loss at Marshall.

Denver libero Macy Carrabine had three assists, a service ace and team-high nine digs in the Pioneers’ 3-0 shutout of Western Illinois. Her 29 digs, three assists and two service aces helped Denver win at Omaha in five sets.

Rose-Hulman junior runner Alexa Kovacs represented the Fightin’ Engineers at the Oberlin Invitational, placing 164th in a time of 25:41.

GREENWOOD

Franklin College sophomore cross country runner Krista Robinson finished second on the team and 161st overall at the #JennaStrong Fall Classic.

Hanover junior receiver Jackson Daugherty made three catches for a total of 24 yards in a 48-7 win over visiting Defiance. Daugherty also returned a punt for 33 yards.

WHITELAND

Anderson senior receiver Matt Luechtefeld had three catches for 21 yards in the Ravens’ 63-0 romp at Earlham.

Wabash sophomore linebacker Ryan Hahn had a tackle for the Little Giants football team in its 7-0 victory at Ohio Wesleyan.

Franklin College junior midfielder Jordan Thomas scored his team’s only goal in a 6-1 loss to Anderson.
