Man arrested with gun on school grounds

A man has been arrested after coming to Franklin schools property while carrying a gun, police said.

Russel Fentro Kesel III, 53, of 1083 Country Meadow Court, was arrested on a felony charge of possession of a firearm on school property and a misdemeanor charge of invasion of privacy because of a protective order in place regarding the person he was trying to speak with.

No threats were made and he did not enter any Franklin schools, Franklin police said.

Kesel had gone to the administration building at 998 Grizzly Cub Drive on Tuesday afternoon to speak to a school employee about personal matters. He was carrying a handgun on his hip at the time, a Franklin police report said.

School employees called police because Kesel was refusing to leave the property, the report said.

Franklin police spoke with Kesel again on Wednesday, and he was cooperative and apologetic. He told them he didn’t realize the administration building was a school building, and signed a no trespass order.

He was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail, and released on $2,200 bond.
