Man arrested after driving while intoxicated with a toddler

A Greenwood man was arrested after police said he drove while under the influence with a toddler in his vehicle.

Ian Lovett, 37, 2452 Galenda Drive, was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated with a previous conviction and possession of paraphernalia.

A Johnson County Sheriff’s Department officer responded to an accident at State Road 135 and Fairview Road at 6:05 p.m. Thursday. An off-duty officer saw a vehicle driven by Lovett drive on a median to go around vehicles, hit a sign and then stop in the middle of the intersection, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Lovett was moving slowly, seemed lethargic and fell asleep when an officer asked him for information. Lovett told the officer he was tired. There was a 2-year-old girl in the backseat of the vehicle, the report said.

He failed several field sobriety tests and an officer found a glass smoking pipe in his pocket, according to the report.

He was taken to the Johnson County Jail, where he was held on $2,000.
