Man dies in Trafalgar accident

Daily Journal staff reports

A Bargersville man was killed in a two-car automobile accident on State Road 44 Tuesday morning.

Chad M. Kepner, 36, was found dead at the scene of the accident after the Johnson County Sheriff’s office responded to a personal injury accident at 6:50 a.m. Tuesday in the 6000 block of W. State Road 44, north of Trafalgar and west of State Road 135. According to the accident report, Kepner’s vehicle struck a sport utility vehicle, inverting his pickup truck.

Bargersville fire fighters worked to extricate Kepner from the upside-down truck, Bargersville Fire Chief Jason Ramey said, but he suffered severe head trauma and was pronounced dead.

The other driver, Earl Davis, 42, Martinsville, reported pain in his hip and upper leg, and was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital. As of Tuesday night, he was in stable condition.

Davis was questioned by sheriff’s deputies, and he had no recollection of what had happened. All he remembered was driving and then all of the sudden there was impact, according to the accident report. He also gave a blood test for alcohol and drugs, and those results are pending.

From an investigation into the crash and evidence on the roadway, Davis’ vehicle was left of the center line at the point of impact, according to the accident report.

The accident closed State Road 44 for several hours Tuesday morning, Ramey said.
