Local marching bands compete in the county

Local marching bands played and marched their way to top finishes at county invitationals, with most earning their highest scores of the season or racking up additional awards.

Center Grove High School hosted their annual Cavalcade of Champions, where its marching band performed in exhibition.

The Marching Woodmen and Irish Guard of Greenwood Community High School snagged the top spot in Class B and earned honors for best music, visual and general effect.

Franklin Community High School’s Blue Regiment earned sixth place in Class B and earned its highest score of the season.

Indian Creek’s Marching Braves earned eighth place in Class C, and earned their highest score of the season.

Whiteland Community High School stayed at home for the Indiana High School Music Association scholastic preliminaries and open class invitational. The Marching Warriors earned a gold rating and earned distinction awards for music, visual and general effect. The trio of awards marked the first time the band had earned all three awards at the annual event.

All of the local bands will start the ISSMA path to earn a berth to state on Saturday, when they take part in regional competition.

Center Grove, Franklin, Greenwood and Whiteland will compete in the Class A and B regional at Center Grove High School. Greenwood performs at 1:10 p.m., Franklin competes at 2:02 p.m., Center Grove goes at 7:27 p.m. and Whiteland performs at 8:32 p.m.

Indian Creek goes south to Evansville Central, where it will march at 7:01 p.m.
