County celebrates famous spooky novel

October has arrived, and the Johnson County Public Library is participating in a statewide initiative to celebrate the anniversary of a classic spooky tale.

The library is celebrating the the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein,” all throughout the month with a Community Read grant of $1,000 from Indiana Humanities to participate in a statewide read of the classic novel.

“Frankenstein” tells the story of a young scientist who creates a grotesque living creature through a scientific experiment and was horrified by what he had made.

More than 60 other communities across Indiana will be reading the book as part of One State / One Story: Frankenstein. The Johnson County Public Library will be hosting book discussions at every branch throughout the month, including an Adult Monster Mash from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 8 at Mashcraft Brewing, 1140 N. State Road 135, Greenwood. The first 200 people to register and attend one of these book discussions will receive a free copy of “Frankenstein.”
