Woman arrested after vehicle accident

A Morgantown woman was arrested after police said she rear ended a motorcycle with her car after she had been drinking, causing injury to a couple riding the motorcycle.

Kelly Renae Johnson, 42, 480 S. Marion St., was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury and driving while intoxicated.

The driver of the motorcycle, Wayne R. Fields, 52, of Connersville, told Johnson County sheriff’s deputies that a vehicle was following him closely when he was driving in the 5300 block of West State Road 135 in Trafalgar, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver waved Johnson around him, but, she refused, and hit the motorcycle, ejecting the driver and the passenger off of the motorcycle. The passenger, Krista M. Fields, 40, of Wisconsin, said the motorcycle hit them so hard, that a diamond flew out of her ring, the report said.

The accident happened just before 7 p.m. Sunday.

Both the driver of the motorcycle and the passenger were taken to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital for treatment. The man had a head injury, according to the report.

Johnson failed several field sobriety tests, told an officer she did not have a driver’s license and attempted to pull away after she was handcuffed, the report said.

She is held on $3,200 bond.
