Indy women arrested in auto theft, attempted fraud

Staff reports

Two women were arrested early Friday morning after sheriff’s deputies noticed them driving suspiciously past closed businesses and through neighborhoods in a car that was reported stolen.

Kelly McAllister, 37, 7882 Eagle Valley Pass, Indianapolis, was arrested on a charge of auto theft. Vashti Marie Blevins, 41, 2922 N. Sheffield Drive, Indianapolis, was arrested on a charge of attempted fraud.

Police watched as a car drove slowly past a Shell gas station and several closed businesses near Bluff and County Line roads just after midnight Friday, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report.

Deputies followed the car as it continued to drive slowly and entered a nearby neighborhood. Deputies were increasing their patrols because of recent vehicle and business break-ins in the area, the report said.

Eventually, the car pulled over and turned its lights off on Morris Street, north of County Line Road.

McAllister and Blevins said they were using their phones to look for a gas station because they were almost out of gas, the report said. Deputies said the women had no explanation as to why they drove past the Shell gas station or pulled into the neighborhood.

McAllister said she had borrowed the car, which was reported stolen out of Marion County. Police also found several stolen items on Blevins, including checkbooks, individual checks, credit cards, social security cards, W2 forms and pieces of mail all with various names of people Blevins told deputies she does not know. Blevins had signed several of the checks, but did not cash them, according to the report.

Both women were taken to the Johnson County jail. McAllister is being held on $1,200 bond. Blevins is being held on $2,400 bond.
