Driver nearly strikes officer, arrested on drug charges

A motorist crossed the center line and nearly struck a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputy this week, causing the deputy to stop the car to investigate.

Methamphetamine and needles were found inside, and Jeffery Margason, 48, of Greenwood, was arrested on felony charges of dealing methamphetamine and possession of a restricted drug injection device, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of paraphernalia.

He was arrested during the traffic stop on Tuesday evening at Morgantown and Fairview roads in the Center Grove area, according to a sheriff’s office report.

The vehicle Margason was driving crossed the center lines and a passing sheriff’s deputy had to swerve into the grass to avoid being hit, the report said.

Inside the vehicle, deputies found needles, smoking pipes, digital scales and baggies that contained meth or meth residue, the report said.

Margason, of 642 Rylan Circle, was taken to the Johnson County jail and held on $3,400 bond.
