Heartnut festival scheduled

Johnson County Park will host the annual Heartnut Heritage Festival in September.

The festival will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 8 at Johnson County Park.

Visitors are invited to bring picnic food and blankets and claim parking spots around the park or enjoy the grassy amphitheater lawn for the fireworks display.

The festival will run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Visitors can enjoy train rides, live barnyard animals and pony rides, kids’ rides and bounce houses, model railroads, radio control cars and airplanes, free crafts and activities, Midstates Amateur Radio club demonstrations, food, craft vendors and more.
