Trojans earn last-minute win

Makensie Kramer scored from 18 yards out with less than 30 seconds remaining to lift Center Grove to a 3-2 victory over Avon on Saturday.

Piper Belden had the first two goals of the day for the Trojans (2-1).

Roncalli lost at Columbus East on Saturday, 4-0.

Trojans split at home

Center Grove had a pair of home games Saturday at the Trojan Classic and came away with a split. The Trojans lost to Brownsburg, 4-2, and blanked Columbus East, 1-0.

Roncalli tops Covenant Christian

Robert Thang scored twice to lead Roncalli to a 4-1 win over Covenant Christian on Saturday. Bryan Guerrero and William Bawi also scored for the Rebels.

Trojans sweep Brownsburg

Center Grove cruised past Brownsburg on Saturday, 25-9, 25-11, 25-18.

Madison Hammill had 24 assists, six kills, nine aces and 11 digs to pace the Trojans (3-1), while Calista Stafford and Gracie Gasper each had eight kills. Jamie Brown had nine blocks and Stafford contributed seven.

Lancers drop four at Henryville

Edinburgh lost all four of its matches at the Henryville Invitational on Saturday. The Lancers (0-6) fell in straight sets against Hauser, North Harrison, Henryville and Paoli.

Rebels breeze past Chatard

Grace Hegewood had 11 kills, 11 digs and a pair of aces in Roncalli’s 25-18, 25-17, 25-23 sweep of Bishop Chatard on Saturday.

Trojans, Cubs fare well at Smock

Center Grove placed fifth out of 18 teams at the Roncalli Girls Invitational on Saturday at Smock Golf Course. The Trojans (334) finished seven strokes ahead of sixth-place Franklin.

Lucy Young led the Trojans with a 79, followed by Maddie Heineman (83), Lauren Pagel (85) and Meg Fosnot (87).

Boys tennis

Warriors sweep league matches

Whiteland defeated Greenwood 4-1 and Plainfield 3-2 on Saturday. The Warriors (3-0, 2-0 Mid-State) got unbeaten days in singles play from Quinten Gillespie, Corey Ullrich and Dylan Gross.

Greenwood (2-1, 1-1) edged Plainfield 3-2 behind singles victories from Ethan Gray, Jacob Rothaar and Nick Belovic.

Trojans enjoy perfect day

Host Center Grove was perfect in three matches at the Trojan Tennis Extravaganza on Saturday. The Trojans beat Perry Meridian 4-1 and pulled out 3-2 wins over Brownsburg and Terre Haute South.

The three victories made Ivan Smith the winningest tennis coach in IHSAA history.

Mitch Runkle was unbeaten at No. 2 singles for Center Grove, while J.T. Embrey and Dhurmil Patel were both 3-0 in doubles, including a pair of wins together at No 2.

Cross-country

Grizzly Cubs sixth at Plainfield

Franklin finished sixth in the team standings at the Plainfield Relays on Saturday. The duo of Lilly Lacy and Jenna Newton placed eighth overall to lead the Grizzly Cubs.

Braves excel at GCA

Indian Creek took first in the girls race and earned the second and third spots in the boys race at Greenwood Christian’s Hokum Karem meet on Saturday. GCA’s Anna Subris and Whitney Smith finished third on the girls side.
