Greenwood to add art on trail signs

The city of Greenwood is adding two new signs to the Polk Hill Trail, to create a gateway to the walking path.

The Greenwood Redevelopment Commission approved spending $17,588 for the 11-foot-tall signs, which will be placed at the east and west entrances to the 2-mile trail along Emerson Avenue near downtown Greenwood.

Rotating art displays and sculptures line the trail, and the signs will include the logos of sponsors of the Art on the Trail program.

“It will give the public a gateway — an entryway if you will — to the trail whether they’re going east or west,” Greenwood Parks and Recreation Director Rob Taggart said. “If and when the program would expand, it would be as easy as just unbolting and moving them.”

“It’s a great program. We want to make sure we are — from a parks standpoint and city standpoint — supporting all of the work that the Arts Council does.”
