One injured in Whiteland shooting

Police are investigating after one person was injured in a shooting in Whiteland overnight.

The shooting happened early Friday morning on Willow Drive, off Front Street.

Police continue investigating, but have the suspect in custody, Whiteland Town Manager Norm Gabehart said.

The shooting happened after a conflict earlier in the evening between two people who knew each other. The suspect returned later and fired four to six shots, Gabehart said.

The victim’s condition is promising, he said.

The suspect was on the scene when officers arrived and was being questioned early this morning, he said.

Multiple officers were called to the scene, including from Franklin, New Whiteland and Whiteland police departments, and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, and the different agencies are working together on the investigation, Gabehart said.
