Sheriff: Thefts from vehicles will continue

After multiple Center Grove area residents reported thefts from their vehicles late last week, police are warning people that the thefts aren’t stopping.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating seven vehicle break-ins early Friday morning in different areas of the Carefree North subdivision in Greenwood, near Peterman and County Line roads.

Residents reported gift cards, sunglasses, spare change, a drone and a purse containing cash, credit cards and a driver’s license missing from their vehicles. The purse was found the next day and returned to the owner, according to the police report.

Most of the vehicles were left unlocked, but one car was locked and the window was broken, the report said.

The sheriff’s office interviewed a possible suspect in other thefts last week, and learned that the thefts are being done by several different groups in the area, Sheriff Doug Cox said. Because of this, they susepct these types of thefts are not going to stop, he said.

Cox recommends residents park their cars in their garages with the doors closed and remove all valuables from their vehicles.
