Shepherd wins, but East loses at Wyndham Cup

Despite Erica Shepherd’s best efforts, the East team wasn’t able to pull out a comeback victory at the Wyndham Cup in Plymouth, Massachusetts on Thursday.

Shepherd edged Yujeong Son, 1-up, to give the East a slim edge, 10.5 to 9.5, in singles play — but the West still finished the three-day coed tournament with the overall upper hand, 26.5 to 23.5.

The victory by Shepherd improved her overall record on the week to 2-1-1. It also allowed her to get a measure of revenge against Son after Shepherd and Angelina Ye dropped a four-ball match against Son and Lucy Li on Tuesday.

Next up on Shepherd’s busy summer schedule is the U.S. Women’s Amateur, which will be played at The Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston, Tennessee, beginning on Aug. 6.

After that event, the Center Grove senior will come back home and attempt to qualify for the LPGA’s Indy Women in Tech Championship at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Shepherd played in that tournament last year, making her first LPGA cut.
