Shepherd gets win, tie at Wyndham Cup

The second day of matches at the Wyndham Cup went significantly better for Erica Shepherd than the first did.

After losing her only match on Tuesday, Shepherd bounced back by earning a win and a tie in her Wednesday showdowns at Old Sandwich Golf Club in Plymouth, Massachusetts, helping the East team stay within striking distance of the West.

With one day remaining, the West has a 17-13 advantage in the coed all-star event.

In the morning, Shepherd paired up with Caroline Curtis to pull out a 1-up victory over Amari Avery and Christine Wang. That point helped the East manage a 5-5 split of the early matches.

During the mixed four-ball matches in the afternoon, Shepherd and partner Canon Claycomb won the first two holes to build an early lead over Leo Oyo and Anne Chen, but then briefly fell behind after dropping holes 4, 5 and 6.

After tying the match on 7, Shepherd and Claycomb took control midway through the back nine, going ahead by two holes. Oyo and Chen fought back again, though, taking two of the final three holes to square the match.

Today’s singles matches will determine which side will emerge victorious.
