Man charged in Greenwood carjacking

A man with a criminal history dating back to 2005 could face more time in prison after police said he repeatedly punched a shopper and stole his truck outside of a Greenwood store.

Izaiha A. Limp, 33, of Whiteland, was charged with robbery resulting in bodily injury, a felony that could carry as much as 16 years in prison.

On July 1, a shopper at a store in the 800 block of U.S. 31, just south of Smith Valley Road, told police he had been robbed at gunpoint and the suspect stole his truck.

The shopper told police the man had hit him in the back of the head hard enough that he thought his truck had been struck by another vehicle. The man punched him again, and the shopper tried to fight back, and then was punched again and the man showed him a gun tucked in his waistband, according to the police report.

The man then ordered the shopper to empty his pockets and to get into the back of his truck. The shopper told the man he was too old to climb over the seat, and when the man turned to open the door, the shopper ran away and yelled at bystanders that the man had a gun, the report said.

The shopper had a black eye and a cut to his head that required a staple. He told police he believed the man enjoyed hitting him, the report said.

Police posted surveillance video from nearby businesses on social media, and had a tip within an hour that the man shown was Limp, the report said.

Officers found Limp at an area motel and spoke to the woman he was with. She told police the two had no money, no car and no place to stay on the day of the robbery. They were hanging out at a bus stop off U.S. 31, and Limp walked away and then drove up in a truck and told her to get in and she could see blood on his knuckles, the report said.

They then drove to Indianapolis and sold the truck for $250, she told police.

Limp told police he was miserable since they were hot and sweaty and had nowhere to go and because he couldn’t take care of the woman he was with, the report said.

He saw the shopper walking out of a store, pushing a cart and followed him to his truck, where he pushed him and told him to give him his truck and money and that he had a gun, the report said.

Limp told police that he normally robs drug dealers, not old men, the report said.

Limp’s criminal history goes back more than 10 years, with multiple convictions in Johnson County, including theft, dealing cocaine, possession of methamphetamine and resisting law enforcement. He has served more than seven years in prison, according to Indiana Department of Correction records.

Limp, 469 Greensprings Drive, was arrested on a warrant for a theft charge in Hendricks County.
