Local seminars offer help to senior citizens

Local senior citizens can get tips on how to deal with everything from dementia to driving in upcoming free seminars.

Franciscan Senior Promise is offering classes at 8778 Madison Ave., Indianapolis.

Here is a look at the classes:

1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursday: ACO Kidney Talk and CICOA: This is a discussion for those living with or caring for someone with kidney disease. Led by the Franciscan Health Accountable Care Organization Renal Care team, this class will share topical information from specialists and discuss how to live in spite of kidney failure issues. The Central Indiana Council on Aging and the services it provides to senior clients will also be discussed.

8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 25: AARP Smart Driver: This course teaches defensive driving skills and is a refresher course of the rules of the road. Contact Robyn Stuteville, Senior Promise program coordinator, at 317-528-6570 for registration and information. The cost for this class is $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers.

1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 27: Dementia Conversations: This workshop offered by the Alzheimer’s Association covers driving, doctor visits and legal and financial planning. It also provides tips for family members in having honest and caring conversations with others about dementia.
