Heading to the fair? Here’s what you need to know

The fairgrounds are prepped and ready for visitors to enjoy the food, rides, animals and hundreds of 4-H projects over the next week.

The fair kicks off with a parade on Saturday, and the fairgrounds officially opens at 8 a.m. Sunday. Here’s what you need to know if you plan to attend the festivities this weekend.

Parade route

The parade will go back to its original route this year though Jefferson Street in downtown Franklin.

When: 4 p.m. Saturday.

Where: The route starts at Franklin Community Middle School, 625 Grizzly Cub Drive, and will head east on Banta Street to then head south on Walnut Street. The route continues east on Jefferson Street.

The parade will then head south on Home Avenue and end on South Street, just south of the Johnson County Courthouse.

Sunday Schedule

8 a.m. — Fair officially begins

8:30 a.m. — Dog show registration

9 a.m. — 4-H Dog Show, east of Fitzpatrick Hall

4-H Horse and Pony – Western Division Halter and Performance, Horse Arena.

9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — Car show registration $15, north of the Grandstands.

1 p.m. — 4-H and Open Class exhibits open.

1 p.m. — Pet Parade, Indoor Arena

2 p.m. — Car Show awards.

3 to 4:30 p.m. — 2018 Little Miss and Mr. Johnson County Contest, Indoor Arena.

5 p.m. — Midway opens, Throwback Night on the Midway, all rides $2.

6 p.m. — Cash drawing at the Day Sponsor Booth, entrance at Herring Hall.

7 p.m. — 2018 Miss Johnson County Fair Queen Contest, Indoor Arena.
