Meth, heroin lead to man’s arrest

A man who previously served time in prison for a drug conviction is facing multiple felony charges after police arrested him with thousands of dollars worth of heroin and methamphetamine.

Mardale Hinton, 39, of Indianapolis, was arrested on charges of dealing methamphetamine, dealing cocaine, battery on a public safety official, resisting law enforcement and neglect.

Hinton was arrested on June 15 at a Franklin restaurant, where police said he was planning to sell drugs, according to the Greenwood Police Department report.

Greenwood police had been investigating Hinton after getting a tip that he was selling drugs. Police did an undercover investigation and recorded evidence of Hinton selling methamphetamine two days before his arrest, the report said.

Hinton sold methamphetamine and heroin a second time after weighing the drugs and exchanging $700 in cash in the bathroom of a Franklin restaurant, the report said.

When Hinton left, officers arrested him. Hinton began swinging and kicking, injuring one officer’s hand. Police used a Taser on Hinton, and arrested him, the report said.

During a search, officers found six-and-a-half pills and four strips of Suboxone, a prescription drug used to help people stop taking heroin, 42 grams of heroin and 122 grams of methamphetamine, the report said.

Hinton told police he had been headed south on Interstate 65 to go clothing shopping with his daughter, his girlfriend and his mother and stopped in Franklin. He told police he was on parole from a case in Ohio, the report said. Hinton was released from prison in Ohio last year after serving nine years on an assault charge. He also served five years in prison in Indiana on a charge of dealing cocaine, according to Department of Correction records.

He told police he doesn’t work and sells narcotics for a living, the report said.

Hinton, 2927 Eastern Ave., was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was held on $163,400 bond.
