Better view, better drainage ahead with creek clearing

Crews are clearing the creek banks in Franklin, starting with Hurricane Creek near the Monroe Street bridge, in an effort to get rid of junk that’s been dumped or trash that has flowed downstream.

Along the way, workers are cutting back brush.

The result will be a better view for pedestrians in the parks or using the city’s trails and motorists crossing the bridge, and better water flow and drainage, Franklin Mayor Steve Barnett said. Workers have hauled off couches and other large items that have been found on the banks or in the water.

Clearing out the overgrown brush will allow for a better view for walkers as well, he said.

The city is using money from its share of state riverboat taxes to pay for the work.

Workers are starting with Hurricane Creek near the Monroe Street bridge, but will likely move to other creek banks and bridges as needed, Barnett said.
