Joshua Oldham and Ethan Shepherd posted the second-best scores for local golfers. Both finished at 75, tied for 36th place overall.

Oldham said the heat was the biggest factor in his first-round performance.

“I don’t think it affected how the course played,” Oldham said of the weather. “I think it affected me more physically. I started feeling it when we had about six or seven holes to go. … I was playing well through 12 or 13 holes, and then I let a few go on the last six.”

Austin Crowder is tied for 48th at 76 and Sam Gorall’s 5-over 77 puts him in a 60th-place tie. Zack Carrabine of Bargersville carded a 6-over 78 for 71st, Franklin’s Matt Jordan shot an 81 for 95th and Tyler Kitchel’s 85 puts him in 126th place heading into today’s second round.

“I played good on the front but struggled on the back a little bit,” Gorall said. “I just need to hit more fairways and keep it out of the rough.”

Tee times for today’s second round will start at 8 a.m. and the final group will tee of at 2:48 p.m.
