Construction worker attacked after asking vehicle to slow down

A construction worker was attacked by three men in a vehicle in Franklin after he asked the driver to slow down.

The worker was helping pour concrete on Acorn Boulevard, in a neighborhood off U.S. 31, when a white car sped past him and another worker. The incident happened about 9:25 a.m. Monday.

The worker was looking out for another employee, who was on the ground, and the vehicle nearly hit them, a Franklin Police Department report said.

He yelled at the driver to slow down, he told police. The car then drove down a nearby street where it stayed for about 10 minutes, according to the police report.

The car returned and he and the occupants, three males estimated to be 16 or 17 years old, had a verbal argument. The three males got out of the car and began punching him, he told police.

A nearby resident heard the commotion outside and saw the males from the vehicle attack the worker, the neighbor told police. He had tried to break up the fight, the report said.

The worker said that he defended himself by trying to push the males away, and put one in a headlock, but he didn’t hit them because they appeared to be teenagers, the report said. He tripped and fell during the attack, and had cuts to his ear, both elbows and his knuckled, the report said.

Police said no one involved or in the area saw the vehicle’s license plate number. Witnesses said the car was a white four-door Toyota or a Mazda.
