Boys and Girls Club of Franklin plans triathlon

Local students can show off their athletic skills in an upcoming triathlon for children.

The Boys and Girls Club of Franklin will be hosting its annual triathlon on June 2.

Natalie Fellure, executive director, tells you what you need to know.

Who can register?

Anyone ages 5 through 14 who can ride a two-wheel bicycle.

How should students prepare?

Everyone will swim, bike and run so I recommend that you be comfortable doing all three of these things, and love to have fun while doing it.

What are the rules?

For swimming, you will swim 25 yards with or without a life jacket, you must be able to ride a two-wheel bicycle without training wheels and wear a helmet for one mile. You must be able to run half a mile.

What do they need to bring that day?

You will pick up a race packet the night before with your official triathlon bib and T-shirt. That morning you will need to bring your swimsuit, bicycle, helmet, Kids Triathlon T-shirt, tennis shoes, and bring your competitive spirit ready to have a blast.

How much does it cost to participate?

$35 to register through our website www.boysgirlsfranklin.org or stop by the clubhouse at 101 N. Hurricane St. to fill out the registration form. Each participate receives a t-shirt, race bag filled with goodies and a medal once they complete the race. Registration ends on Friday.

How many students can participate?

We want all kids who want to participate to join us.

Why is this something you do each year?

The mission of the Boys & Girls Club is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens by providing quality programming to the youth of Johnson County that focuses on education, the arts, technology, health and physical fitness in a safe and positive environment. The triathlon is a great community event where we can encourage health and physical fitness while giving kids the ability to compete in a fun activity that allows them to interact with their peers and prove to themselves that they are able to complete something that not everyone can do!
